My O'Day 30 has an alcohol stove with oven. In the hanging locker is the alcohol tank which has a valve similar to a valve on a tire. Does anyone know if that is supposed to be pumped up with a hand pump? If so, to what pressure, or is a cylinder supposed to be attached? The previous owner never used it so he has no information to offer. Also, is anyone familiar with the procedure for lighting the Hillerange stove and oven? My old boat had a Kenyon stove that is not at all similar. Thanks for any and all help. Mike B

Play on the Internet

Locate the manufacturer, if they are still around. Then you will know exactly what to do. I just recently bought an older boat and had my first experience with an alcohol stove. It SUCKS big time. anyway, it has an electric 12v pump. I was told by the previous owners to shut the pump off when i reaches a pre-determined mark on an unreadable gage. I have a Galley Maid 3 burner and Oven. Anyone in the Tampa area interested? $200 FIRM. It works like it supposed to and is in very good condition. As soon as i can come up with $1,000, the alcohol stove will be the first thing to go.

try this

We ( my wife and I) are both in the restaraunt biz and we use the portable omelette stoves that you see at hotels for buffet cooking. They run on cans of butane and are very light weight and portable, use them then pack them away. They run about $80.00 dollars at any rest. supply store. Cans of fuel about 8.00 bucks and last about 2 hours on a can. Since we have this on board we have removed the old staove and use the space to store the stove + cooking utinsels since it is smaller than the old stove. Pray for Wind, Lugeman

Alcohol Stove/Oven

The first time we tried our new to us alcohol stove it was a litle interesting because the demonstrator let too much acohol in the preheater try. Should have listened to the PO. Once the preheat trays were warm the burners and oven worked like a charm; just like a white gas Coleman stove. I cannot remember what the tank recommends for air pressure but we pumped it with a small bicycle/sports ball pump. For a quick cup of coffee/tea, we light up the gimballed Forespar Mini-galley. cannot get to the boat until next Saturday. If someone else doesn't post the pressure b/4 next weekend, I will check and forward our recommended pressure. Our stove/oven looks similiar to yours.

15 PSI

The po's wife showed me the mark on an unreadable gage, but i found a note from the PO who has since passed. 15 PSI, and from his other notes, i would bank on that number but ONLY FOR A GALLEY MAID. Other brands may be somewhat different, but not likely. Most manufacturers dont actually make the parts, they just assemble what available on the market except for maybe the metal cabinet.
