Best to remove the jib, but if you don't, mechanically pin the jib furler so it cannot turn I use a big snap-loop I got from H.Depot to go thru the hole in the drum and the shield that holds it even if the furling line parts from chafe.. consider removing the jib if you are going to get sustained winds over about 40 .. After every storm I have seen, I am amazed at how many jibs are completely shreadded afterwards. Once it begins to unroll, it increases the windage a lot and what I have noted is that there have been many boats with shreadded (formerly) roller furling jibs in the trees after storms ..
