Precision Sails

Hi fellow sailors! I submitted a quote request form on the precisionsailloft.com website and received a call back from them offering me a quote on a roller-furling headsail for my Pearson 30 for a darn good price. Has anyone bought a sail from them? And if so, what was your experience like and how did the sail perform and wear?

I was very impressed with the price but just hope I am impressed with the sail if I do, indeed, order it. Your feedback/advice has always been "right on" and I expect it to be on this! Thanks in advance! LMS

If you do a quick google search, there are some worrisome threads like this one:

Like any product, just be cautious about paying too little and "getting what you pay for"...
I would advise building a quote baseline for judging incoming prices - like starting by getting a quote from North Sails Direct. Considering the discounters, there are some good ones: a friend of mine has been honestly representing Lee Sails in the Pacific NW for over 20 years.
And, do not be shy about approaching the "majors". I have found that UK sails can come close to the discounters with their dacron offerings and the shape is good regardless of choice of material.
So between your computer keyboard and your cell phone, you should be able to put together some reasonable quotes. Just don't forget to toss out the highest and lowest ones, as you would in reviewing bids for any construction!

Hi FastOlson, thank you so much for taking the time to reply! I know what you're saying is true, I guess I was just looking for affirmation. A new sail is an investment and it's not worth much to anyone but me, so thanks for pulling my head out of the sand! The old adage "if it sounds too good to be true, it proprably is" is definitely apropos here. I've got an old Helms 27 furler as a headsail now and it's pretty pitiful. In fact, the leech line rotted out a few weeks back! But the coffers are low and I'm stuck with it for the forseeable future(being poor has disadvantages)! I guess I'm stuck with looking for a used sail! Regards and Happy Sailing! Lee

Have you tried Joe Waters? I have his number if you need it. I have no idea if he has used sails. You can always ask.

I bought a main sail from them a couple of years ago. Only one little snafu the slides were to small but they fixed that right away. I'm not racing only a cruiser and the sail seems fine to me.
I bet buying in Canada looks good right now with your dollar worth 30% more than our's.
I don't have any other ties to them other than being a customer.

This is clearly a Chinese or Asian company. I have, however, heard that you can get pretty good sails out of Asia for cheap. They are getting better.

I appreciate the help and/or suggestions. I'm going to keep looking. If you locate a sail with an approx luff size of 37', leech 35-37, foot about 18-20', I'm your go to guy! Thanks to everyone for your input! I appreciate y'all!
