Precision 23 Trailer GVWR

I just bought a 2003 Precision 23 and the Performance trailer that came with the boat back in 2003. To register the boat I need to know the GVWR of the trailer. The original sticker is missing from the trailer. Does anyone know the GVWR of the Performance trailer that came with the Precision 23 around the 2003 model year?

You can use the tire size to get a good estimate. On the sidewall of the tire, it should say "max load xxxxlbs @ xxPSI". Multiply that number by the number of tires on the trailer, and subtract 10%. That will give you a reasonable estimate of the max GVWR for that trailer. Manufacturer could have made GVWR less for other reasons, but OEM-spec tires are usually the limiting factor.

Have you tried searching for the trailer model and specs? What brand of trailer?

When faced with that problem in NY there was an option to call it a home made trailer and DMV was willing to overlook weighing it. I think they allowed me to guesstimate the weight. Otherwise I would have had to take it somewhere to be weighed. Obviously I would have had to drive it illegally to get it weighed. Options to weigh it were the local transfer station (Dump), some metal re-cyclers, and the Interstate weighing stations - go back to driving illegally.

Thank you. That's a very practical approach. I'll go with that in lieu of finding the actual data. The trailer builer has been out of business for quite some time.

Yes, I've tried. All I found was the empty weight of the trailer. The trailer brand is Performance. It was made by BILL'S WELDING SHOP, INC DBA CUSTOM HAULER, but they're out of business.

Thanks, but weighing the trailer won't give me the GVWR. I need this rating which would have been determined by the manufacturer.

Precision is still in business. Call them and ask if they have the information, if they don't ask for their recommendation for the trailer's GVWR and use that number.

Performance isn't out of business! Give them a call. I know other manufacturers can make new labels
