Pre-2008 Hunter 36/356 Interior teak maintenance

1) What do you all use on the surface of the teak-veneered walls/cabinets/etc to keep them well preserved and shiny?

2) How about the companionway steps? Our 2006 H-36, I'm not sure what those boxy stairs are made out of (teak as well?) but they came basically 'unfinished' but not sure teak oil would be the right thing to put on them.

3) In the shower, there is that little rippled window with wood trim that catches water. What do you refinish that with?

I use Pledge wipes on everythiing except the steps and shower grate. I use Plegde oil on them.

On our 2005 H33 we use Pledge on all interior wood except for flooring and stairs.
My wife uses something called Bona for the flooring, it seems to have it's own applicators and is a system. It seems to clean as well as being nonslip.

For the stairs, I scrub them down with a mild teak cleaner. I then use the brand of teak oil that came with the boat.

We have used the Bona for years on the flooring of a ski condo and have had good results.

Teak

I was told my 2007 H-36 er toowas one of the last boats with teak and Hunter switched to Cherry wood when I toured the factory back in late 2006.
Any way what I use on the walls is the can of teak oil that came with the boat and on all the rest of the teak wood have been using Watco teak oil even on all the trim and grate in the shower area and on the boxy engine cover too.
But be careful to not get sloppy with it and I use painters tape to keep from getting on the non wood parts.

I used Pledge on the walls and it seems to work OK.

My steps were grungy looking and so used a scotch brite pad and some teak cleaner, then a coat of teak oil, they came out looking like new.

I have friends that swear by Scott's Liquid Gold for their boat, it does a nice job, I have used it on furniture and was happy with the results I may try it next on our 356.

I've seen and experienced problems using Murphy's oil soap. Be careful... Lot of problems with mold - keep well ventilated.

Hi Deac! Our 2002 356 has the varnished teak below- we clean it with Olde English lemon oil-gives it a nice sheen and kills any mildew spores. Our steps are oiled teak on fiberglass, so we use a heavy teak oil on them

Chenega..... Thanks for the heads up ..... I have not seen a problem so far .... Will keep an eye out for any issues.

I never got a bottle of teak oil with the boat. What brand do they give you? Thanks for all the input.

On my 1988 Legend 37 I have never used anything but Scott's Liquid Gold. It helps to preserve the wood as well as making it look good. I have had many people comment that it still looks like new.
