So I am swapping my raymarine RC530 (2005) with a new Garmin 7607xsv. I want the same panel switch to power the unit. So I feel I just cut the power cable that is already in place and wired and tap into that. Am I missing anything??

thanks!
Greg

Just make sure that the new unit and old unit have the same power requirements. Some GPS (I have two) have different requirements, One needs 8V and the other between 6~12V. So one requires a step-down while the other can plug directly into the battery.

Me personally I would not cut power lines unless I could not get a spare power cable. But if you do cut, make sure you leave ample length on the equipment side to resplice if you have to,

Thanks.... yes same power requirements. The cable I am going to cut is the old raymarine power feed.
