I am looking at buying a small Hunter in the next few months. I like the idea of a trailer sailer and have looked at the 240 and 260. Has anyone bought one of these and regretted it because they should have got the other etc. Any help / tips / advice would be great P.S I'm in Australia and they are scarce so getting a good look at one is proving difficult.

H240 in my opinion

I have a h240 and trailer it about 175 mi on weekends. I pull it with a 1997 chev blazer, which is fine although the h26 might be stretching the limits. As far as the potential beam problem is the main reason I opted for the 240. Some state have resticitions on the width.I would only go for the 260 because or the enclosed head facilities.

H260

I have a H26 with wheel steering (which is the same boat as the 260) an I love it. It is big enough to entertain and sail with friends as well as stay on it for a weekend. I would highly recomend it. Dave Oberholtzer "Hydrotherapy"

Hunter 240 and 260

Both boats are trailerable and it takes the same aount of time to rig and launch by one person. It will take longer in the beginning until you have the routine down. If sailing in the ocean, I would consider the 260 as it is a heavier displacement and a little more stable. The old addage is the bigger the boat, the more stable it is. The cockpit on the 240 is a little more spacious but the cabin is larger on the 260. It really depends on what your needs for the boat is. If you want wheel steering on a boat, then only the 260 is offered with it. You could install wheel steering on the 240 but do not recommend it. Since you are not able to see these boats plus the fact you live in Australia, I will arrange for owners to e mail you photos if you will leave your email address. Happy sailing
