Hey everyone, thank you for providing this resource. I am looking at buying a '95 Hunter 19. I took an initial look at it, but will ask for a second more thorough review if I decide to make an offer. My big question is the height of the boat when on a trailer (i forgot to take a tape measure). does anyone store this boat in their garage? My door is 7' tall and I have 21' feet of length. i think i am okay on length, but the height scares me.

Also, i searched and googled and never found a general description of stepping the mast on this boat. how difficult is it compared to similar boats as well as general set up?

I have found general comments about the way she handles, but any comments on that are also welcome.

Thanks again for your help! i will put a little about my experience below if you are interested.

I learned to sail on a 13' capri we had when i was a teen. i have rented and bummed my way aboard on several smaller boats since. I was in the peace corps in the pacific and had my own hand built proa canoe. My buddy has a 21' hobie which is a blast. i also crewed on a 48' Fountaine-Pajot cat from New Bern to Saint Augustine a few years ago. So, lots of small boat experience and now looking to get the family aboard and teach my 7 yr old boy to sail.

Kuriti,
Welcome to the forums.

Check the Boat Info tab for reviews on the Hunter 19. That will give you some idea on how other sailors feel it handles.

If you are looking at the swing keel version, the photos I've seen looks like it will clear under a 7' door. You may need to remove the mast and mast crutch to clear. I do that to clear a barn door with my H260.

19' boat on a trailer may exceed your 21' though. If that is a deal breaker, better take a tape with you.

Thanks Dave. i had read the reviews from owners here, but if anyone else has first hand experience...

The trailer it is on has a removable tongue. it will definitely be close, but i am thinking they designed it for fitting in the garage. Even with the tape measure, i would like to hear from someone who has done it. I am awaiting feedback from my HOA as to whether it can go in my back yard or not. The boat was the widest part of the rig, so the berth is the width.
