I have a Hunter 28.5 1984. I noticed that my potable water lines are leaking under my bathroom sink. On further investigation I found that the compression tees on the potable water lines are leaking. I want to replace these compression tees but I'm not sure where to get them. I looked up the tees in West Marine and they have them but they are for 15mm lines. My lines say they are 1/2" ? Does anyone know the potable water line size on an 84 Hunter? where can one find the right compression tees?

Home Depot or Lowes...

Onboard fresh water plumbing is the same size as domestic....you can find anything you need for it at a hardware store or plumbing supply--and for a LOT less than any marine supply.

Leaking Fitings

The problem with the fittings is usually from over tightening and stripping the threads as not much else can go wrong unless the piping rubbs against bulkheads where it passes thru. Try three or four wraps of teflon tape on the threads. I usually open up the lines at the pump and at the water heater when I drain down the system every winter and blow out the water thru the open faucets. Each spring I wrap the threaded portions with new teflon tape and put them back in operation, being carefull not to overtighten.

Probably 3/8" polybutylene

my 31 uses 3/8" for all freshwater plumbing. More than likely, yours too. As stated, any hardware store stocks what you need. Mine were leaking too, but another turn on the "nut" stopped the leak.

potable plumbing

the newer hunters use the 15mm tube with the quick connect whale style fittings-and even though they're in the WM catalog, they are only stocked in some parts of the country. I had to special orer that Tee from CA!

Try CPI fittings

I just found some fittings at a plumbing supply house. They worked real nice & were easy to install. They are called Push & Turn fittings and made by Consolidated Plumbing Industries (CPI) of Knoxville, TN. They have a nice website that describes how they work. Good luck

Yes it was 3/8 tubing

Thank you for the replies. It was 3/8 inch tubing at the local plumbing supply. Total came to $3 for 4 compression fittings and some hose. I nearly fainted. The West Marine fittings will not work unless you rerun with their tubing. Too bad the rest of the boating industry can't have prices like that!
