I am in the process of refurbishing a Beneteau First 35, and am replacing the old crazed windows (not the portlights at this time, tho). The same arrangement I have seen on other boats by other manufacturers. These windows are held on by a combination of doublesided adhesive foam between the windows and the deck fiberglass, and approximately 34 "Chicago posts." They may be called something else but the closest I could find were referred to as Chicago posts or binding posts. Essentially, these are bolts: The exterior bolt is hollow and threaded internally, while the interior bolt (that goes through the interior window frame) goes into the hollow and is screwed in. The ones on the boat are aluminum and appear to have been anodized, but many were so corroded that they sheared off while removing. I cannot find replacements anywhere. Has anyone replaced their windows with a similar system, and if so, what did you use. I am going to need 34 sets for each side, and I have search locally and on line to no avail. The Chicago Posts I have found on line are nowhere as strudy as the ones on the boat...

Alum screw post

They are called screw posts. You can get them in most general hardware stores or online. I add a link below, but their are many more sites selling them. I just picked up two new lexon windows today and will be replacing my Benny windows also. In talking to the glass company they suggested using a adhesive sealer for car windshields and forget the screw posts. He said it would be far better than the foam sealer and drilling all the holes that caused the lexon to crack. He said to spray a primer on the window and the fiberglass, and apply the adhesive. It will set up in a hour and be good to go. The primer is also used to hide the sealer bead from view. The products and advice can be provided by anyone that is doing car window replacements.
