please give your cruising sailing recommendations for my 1982 hunter 37 cutter i have roller furling headstay (profurl) and inner forestay...the mainsail is rigged as from factory but with backstay tensioner...running backstays i sail on an inland lake average wind 10-12 knots...but need good light air capability and then abilitity to occasionally sail in 20 knots thanks please send quotes as well to sailorhayes@hotmail.com

Cruising sail or sailing?

Jim, are you asking about sailing or a new sail? If a new mainsail then I think you have to fit for the long haul. Did you not once write that you planned to move the boat? Once you leave the lake you could encounter 40 knots. But I also think that could happen where you are. So my recommendation would be to buy the best mainsail possible. My North is relatively heavy dacron, NorDac 4800 at 8 oz. That fabric is available from 4 oz. to 9 oz. My Lee yankee(jib) is 7.6 oz. but oversized which helps. For light air I have a 4 oz. gennaker which I can use if the breeze is at least 90 true. I think your other option is two or more suits of sails. But on Lake Erie you could easily get caught with the wrong ones bent on.
