Going to check out a 1981 which has been out of the water since 02.. I am in Arizona so the sun has had a long time to cause havoc. What are the problem areas I should look for besides obvious sun damage. Rachel.

Anything rubber. Everywhere.
All seals.
All external blocks with plastic inside.
Masthead hardware and connections, including exposed wires.
Throw out all lines and halyards, use the old ones to feed first.
A perfect time to re-bed all deck hardware with butyl tape.
Then hose the boat down heavily, and look for rub rail leaks.

Check the sails but most important the swing keel cable if there is one. If on a trailer, check for tread/dry rot, pull a few miles and if hubs are super hot then bearings and racers need to be replaced, if brakes make sure they work. Hose down the boat and check for leaks. There is a lot more but you get the picture and if you do not =know what to look at, get a friend with a sailboat to look with you at the boat.
I had to re-bed the rub rails on my 1976 H25, not sure on the 81, mine is through bolted and holds the deck to the hull.
Check for core issues around the mast and stanchion mounts, I also had some repairs in those areas.
Check for cracks around the top of the rudder post too, I did some touch ups on mine.
Those were the important areas I had to deal with, everything else was just personalization.
Sails can be had if you look, I just picked up an almost new main for $200

Well I got to look at the boat. Outside not bad . bottom paint was very rough like it wasn't prepared properly before the paint was added
Main sail looked nice but the jib and Genoa were stained. The inside was terrible. Trim hanging from counter, wood looked weathered, tired and old. I expected the inside to be nice. Being enclosed. No motor, tires need replacing on trailer. All in all no where near good condition. Offered him 1700,said thank you and left. Only consolation was I got to see Flagstaff az and beautiful pine forest

Yup the in Flag. Said he will probably take it up to his new place, but I doubt it. We'll see, and let you know if I am a Hunter owner. My other concern if my neighbor's f150 can pull it up the Roosevelt ramp. It is long and steep.
