If this year's race is anything like the last one
Your wife won't have to worry about being in a 'race situation." I helped with race committee and have been asked to do so again this year. My only regret last year was that I didn't have a camera with me. That omission will definitely be corrected this year!

Fully half the fleet were novice sailors and 90% of the other half were novice racers...and 100% were more concerned with gelcoat damage avoidance than anything even remotely approaching "racing strategy." The fleet was spread out so far at the start that it was a full 20 minutes after the gun before last boat crossed the start. The few boats that were serious committed racers took an early LONG lead, the rest of the fleet just enjoyed an afternoon sail around a pre-defined triangular course. We did have one interesting moment at the start...the smallest boat in the fleet--a 16' or 17'--found himself about 100 yds in front of the start at the gun. Never having raced before, he didn't know to go around the committee boat or the mark...he just came about and headed straight back through the oncoming fleet. Pandemonium reigned as a reasonably tidy start collapsed into collision avoidance in every direction. Still think you'll need those 10 racing sails?

p.s. The dinghy race is a LOT more competitive! Last year's was two-person crews, out and back around a floating "island". The person on the oars was blindfolded, his crew had to tell him where to row. It helped if you'd already had a couple of beers. I don't think your racing sails will do you much good there either.

Hey...is my dinghy partner gonna be there again this year??? We'd have won it if the dinghy we drew for the final heat hadn't been the leaky one and almost sank...I want a rematch!
