I have my eye on a 1993 23.5 for sale locally, and am hoping some folks in the know could give me some ideas about potential problem areas I should be looking into regarding this model. The centerboard pivot seems okay, the tiller bolt hole is wallowed minimally. Anything else I should be looking at critically? Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Off the Top of my Head

Some things to make sure the seller sees you taking a critical look at though would not be deal busters. Toggle Bolts on the rigging Crack in the seam between the hull and deck along the transom Crack along the the seam of the rudder Gelcoat cracks in the drains at the forward corners of the hatch Ubolt in the anchor locker being loose Bow eye bent or loose Gaskets in the ballast tank valve upper and lower Most all 23.5s will have these issues though none of them should make you look for a different boat. They may help you as negotiating points. If the seller is reading this maybe not.

wallowed tiller bolt holes

Here is a link to a post I made recently about wallowed tiller bolt holes on the H23.5. ...RickM...

Mast raising bridles and pole

Make sure that the owner has both mast raising bridles and gin pole that inserts into the base of the mast on the forward side. The gin pole will have a notch on one end and two loops on the other end. The bridles will each have a pelican hook on one end and a hook on the other. If the owner doesn't have the mastraising/lowering instructions get a manual from Hunter. Check the condition of the trailer such as the breaking system, bunk boards, tires. Run the motor and make sure water is squirting out the back and idle it at the slowest idle. Ask when the lower unit oil was changed (should be annually). Ask when the water pump impeller was last changed. Rick has hit the other areas to look for. Good Luck. Let us know how it goes.
