Does anyone have any experience chartering a sailboat in Portugal? I may be going in October and would like to sail for a couple of days..north of Lisbon near Ericeira. Appreciate any information.

Check a local charter website. You may need to have a European or RYC license/permit/certification to charter a boat. They are strict about such things over there.

The waters off of Faro or Lisbon are totally (worlds) different from Barnegat Bay NJ.

Think BB as an inland large pond compared to nightmare experience in the middle of a North Atlantic winter storm difference.

Nazare, Portugal on a big day.

You might have more luck going for a day cruise on a boat than a bare boat charter.
most of the sites I reviewed all were 40’ or larger boats.

Scheduling a day cruise sounds like good advice but that said, I don't think I would have too tough a time negotiating the seas in the picture of the Nazare surf picture .

No probably not. Put on your life vest, grab on to something solid and begin to pray, would be my action.

Did not seem like that long ago but having to think about it twenty years ago renting a Macgregor 26 in the Azores for a day sail was an easy endeavor. The guy at the marina asked where I learned to sail and if I had sailed a Macgregor. Told him Hawaii and I have a friend back in Mississippi had one. Those answers were good enough for him and we spent a nice day sailing in and around the bay.
