The portlights on the Ericson 29 are held in place by an alumnium trim that runs opposite the window on the inside and pulls the outside window frame towards it. Originally there was a (now) gummy gasket between the hull and the trim and the window. Of course it fell apart when I removed the window to look for a leak. I plan to replace the gasket with a piece of foam weather stripping from Home Depot and I think that will fill in the gap and fit snug if I get the right size weather stripping. I don't expect it to keep out water however, the gap between the fiberglass and the window is just too irregular. The problem is that if I silicone the outside window frame to the fiberglass I may never be able to remove the window again. Here is my question: Is there a sealant or calking compound that is either not adheasive, or does not set up? I would invision something like puddy or oily wax. I read the article in Practical Sailor on calks and sealants this month and it didn't address this problem.
