The first time I asked about this I didn't get any response. Come on somebody must have an opinion on this! I am thinking of adding a fixed portlight in my H260 as high as possible on the starboard side in the aft birth area. This would be very handy to get a view of the outside without leaving the bunk. To do the same thing on the port side would mean to have the portlight lower. I realize that when heeling the portlight might be below the water line. Any thoughts?

Do it.

It is done all the time on larger vessels so why not? That part of the hull would require some reinforcement since it is structural. How much would depend on how large you wanted to make the portlight. If you used a round bronze portlight(related link) it would be stronger than the hull. And it would provide added ventilation since it opens.

Several months ago, I saw something on adding a port to the 260 rear berth area. In fact, I recall a photo of the port on the starboard side being submitted. Hope you find something.
