My 27 hunter has a MSD style porti pottie which means it can be converted to a pump out style. I have the adaptor needed for the pottie, the hose and the deck pump out fitting. I also need to run an air line (1/2") from the built in holding tank to the outside. The question is... where should I run this air line to? High up on the side of the hull? What type of thru hull fitting should I use? Just a regualr drain like the bilge pump drain?

Just did it

I just did this same thing. I mounted the vent thru-hull high on the side. You do that so it does not ever get submerged. I also put mine near the waste pumpout outlet so that as I pump out the waste I can use a hose to put water down the vent. This helps clean the tank. Also, I used an adapter to go from 1/2" vent hose to 1" vent hose so that it would be easier to get the water down there. Also used a 1" thru-hull for the vent. It is the same type of thru-hull as your bilge pump drain, mine is Marlon.

Thanks

I thought that was the way to do it, but I wanted to talk to someone who has already been there and could warn of possible problems. I bet if you put a half loop in the air hose (like the hose for the bildge pump), that would keep any water from siphoning into the holding tank.

You don't need a loop in the vent...

Keep the vent line straight...if you put a loop in it, you wouldn't be able to backflush it. Besides, on Lanier you can't stay on the same tack long enough with your rails in the water for a siphon to start...and in the short time that you might have the vent thru-hull submerged, you couldn't take on more than couple of tablespoons of lake water.

Good input Peggy.

Thanks a bunch Peggy. You truly are the "Headmistress" :) Sounds like you know Lanier pretty well. Are you a Atlantian?

Was an Atlantan for 26 years, but not there now

So I know Lanier very well...kept my boats at Holiday for a few years, then at UYC till I moved to AR in 2001 to be near my dad after my mom died.
