Here's one for the voltheads. I'm looking for an alternative to running the main engine for battery charging. I don't want wind or solar and am thinking about a Honda generator and have good things about the Eu2000i. My question is this; it's output is only 16 amps AC, so do you plug it into the on-board AC charger, or use it's DC function, (only 8 amps) to charge a 400 amp/hour battery bank. How long does it take to bring the bank back to 80% from 50%? Any comments from users would be appreciated, thanks. Larry W.

USE AC

the 16 ampere rating of the generator is equivelent to over a 100 amperes at 12VDC. USE the charger. Also do not load the generator more than 80% (12.6AAC) of its rating for continuous duty. The time required to charge your battery bank will be dependent on the size of your charger.
