Does anyone have any experiences with the several portable deck wash down units on the market? My primary use would be in conjunction with the anchor chain and the foredeck. Salt HOH or fresh?

Not necessary to waste fresh water.
One of our skippers installed an electric DC plug in his anchor locker and uses a small/medium bilge pump with a hose on one end. Drop the bilge pump into the water, plug it in, and wash down.
Simplest thing I've ever heard of.
And it works great.

I installed a Johnson pump in the chain locker. I drop a flexible hose over the side, on the end of which is the screen part of a deep-well check valve (bought for maybe $10 at Lowes) which serves as a strainer and a weight to keep the I take underwater. It works great when the chain is coming up muddy.
