"I Got It Now.."

Hey, You learn something every day. You guys are all right. My porto potty does come out of the boat. From now on, I'll take it home with me in order to empty it. You'll reconize me on the subway with it. I'll carry it like my brief case and maybe no one will notice what it is when I stop in the Village for a few benders before going home to the bride. Thanks Guys..

My Hat Is Off

To those who are seen dumping their porti potties! It is embarassing, but at least they acted like concerned adults that delt with it as needed. I also have a poti poti that is usually emptied at home. What concerns me is the people you don't see, could it be that most of them are dumping their ice cream buckets overboard when the rest of us are not looking??? Sincerely, Brian

Buy the book Ken!

Hi Ken, FYI, it is the best book you will read on marine sanitation, ESPECIALLY how to get rid of boat odors...and it is free information from one of the best, if not the best expert in the business. Trust me on this...and get the book, it will then become clear. Jack Hart Hickory, NC

Man, you guys are too much! It's no wonder Peggie gets frustrated! Anyway, down south here in the Barnegat Bay, we have a "pump-out" boat that travels up & down the bay during the season. I don't know who operates it, but it's a great service to all of us who appreciate a clean environment. Furthermore, I may be wrong, but my understanding is that all marinas (at least around here) MUST allow ANYONE to use their pumpout staions. For those who cannot use the regular pumpout equipment, our marina also has a porta-potty dumping station out back behind the bathhouse. From the looks of it, I suppose we're among the more fortunate sailors around these parts! Back in the 1970's our Morgan 28 had a standard head that flushed overboard. We now have a Thetford porta-potty that has a neat cap for the holding tank: it has a 1.5" fitting for pumpout and a 1/2" fitting for the vent (see link below). Since we don't do any long-distance cruising at this time, this system works very well for us at a very low cost. And BTW, KO works great! Jim s/v: The Merry Bee

Ken ..save your money

I'm not trying to take away anything from Peggy, but there is not much more info that she can give that i cant find by reading the labels or calling the manufacturer of the product. Who is going to warrant the product,Peggy or the manufacturer? I'm sure Peggy really knows her shit (pardon the pun), but there are times that i disagreed with some of her recommendations. But this is not the point that Ken brings up. If i were to publish a book on woodworking, will that give me the right to add my LINK everytime a woodworking question comes up? Maybe its OK for her because she has a place on the expert forum. If that entitles her to free advertising, then so be it.

Sailortonyb, some of the funniest

people I know are plumbers. Septic tank cleaners also have a well developed sense of humor. I just wonder if Peggie get as exercised about the municipal sewage spills as she does about marine sanitation. The town of Centerville has been dumping untreated waste water into the Corsica River for years and oysters are harvested within five miles of the mouth of that river.

Ross, all i can say is...

All I can say is, in this life, everything tastes like one of two things. It either tastes like chicken or it tastes like s**t. Now i can fully appreciate how that came to being. Its either farm raised or its exposed to untreated sewage. I learn something new every day. Thanks for the input. LOL I knew there was a reason I joined this forum. Its for thoose of us with a sense of humor. Speaking of humor, did you catch the one with the German Coast guard yet?

I'll have to Ask at the Club

Maybe they need to put in a station to dump out the tank. In the womens room, since they seem to be the only ones who use it anyway. We have a rule on our boat, "If you use it you clean it". I have never used it and I am the onl one who has cleaned it. So much for any rules I make at my house.

Tonyb, So when I call the

German CG and say: "This is the sailing vessel Bietzpadlin" they will say, " But of course it does, you think we don't know that?"

comercial use?

Ken, Peggy provides us with a huge amount of useful information on this site, gratis, and she is our expert on sanitation issues. We all provide links to useful info sites, commercial or not, and she's hardly pushing her book on us-it's just a link. In any case, many of us have found her book to be extremely useful, and it's certainly not in my local bookstore!

Peggie has been sharing her considerable knowledge with boat owners all over the world, almost 7 days a week, 365 days a year, for as long as people have talked about boats on the internet. We have given Peggie express permission to publish the link to her book. If the book lets her recoup a small fraction of the value she's dispensed to others, we're all for it.

Peggy's book

Thanks for all your feedback. I DID buy Peggy's book on marine sanitation and boat odors. I thought it was a complete waste of money. There is nothing in that book (IMHO) that is any more than common sense. Just my 2 cents worth.
