Porta poti blues

A few times I was healing a tad more than I should, window washing angle as gusts came through and I was driving hard to windward. To the point, when I went below I found puddles of porta poti blues (the lower tank was empty so it was from the top tank). this is not the first time, so this trip I only filled the head tank 1/2 way. Has/is any one else having this problem. I know I should sail flatter, but that should be for boat performance, not porta poti performance. P.S. Just came back from a great week sailing to/around etc Block island RI (the boat performed great (swells getting to 4ft + a little and a great breeze every day, boat seems to settle in at 20-25 degrees heel).

From the top tank?

If you mean the "bowl," there should be anything in it except during use, only in the flush water/chemical reservoir. If you meant the reservoir, it sounds like it's leaking--that a seal has failed...or maybe just the o-ring in the cap. Or it may be cracked. Inspect it carefully--take it out and turn it upside down to see just where it's leaking. That'll tell you whether it can be repaired or--if it's cracked--it's time for a new portapotty.

Fixed porta potti blues

Hi Peggie, yes it is from the reservior. Thanks for your suggestions. When I tipped it around I found a 1/8 ich reservior vent hole in the top which must leaks on port tack and healing mucho. I have sealed it drilled a new one a little closer to the center and made it 1/64". Hand pump still recharges fine with smaller vent hole and I can now wash the windows of the boat on a good heal without washing the insdie floor with blue poti water. Yeah! thanks again.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM.....

WITH MINE. APPARENTLY THE SANIPOTTIES ARE DESIGNED TO TILT SIDE TO SIDE, NOT FOREWARD AND BACK. AFTER FINDING THE VENT HOLE, I PLUGGED IT, AND DRILLED ANOTHER MIDWAY AT THE INSIDE RIM OF THE BOWL. NO MORE LEAKAGE. SANIPOTTI WAS VERY HELPFUL WHEN I CALLED AND SENT ME ANOTHER ONE. NOW I HAVE AN EXTRA.

Porta potti

I was always under the impression that you only put fresh water in the top tank and the blue stuff goes in the bottom with a pint or so of water? Jim maroldo s/v: Lil' Wass Ett

I have sined!

Sorry, that is what happens from not reading the instructions in a dogs age and going on memory. Still, I think I will keep sinning as it works for me :) Cristrals in the top tank, bottom tank and ##?!X*@! they get everywhere.

Spray bottle...

I read another solution (Probably on this site) which is to forego using the top (fresh water) tank and instead use a spray bottle to "flush". You can direct the "flush" where needed. Fair winds, Tom

Throw the Porta Potty overboard.............

If you're sailing heeled over 25 degrees or more you can pretty much talk care of business right from the cockpit. Seriously, I've heeled pretty dramatically but never had a spill. Maybe some seals on the porto potty need replacing. Good luck Hayden
