I am a newby trying to learn my boat. The PO on my 78 Cat 30 TR removed the reefing lines and ran the outhaul line all the way down the boom to the cleats on the starboard side, which I believe were meant for the reefing lines, as there are two of them there. There is a single cleat on the port side of the boom which has no lines going to it right now, so I am wondering if the outhaul was originally intended to terminate on the port side? I want to add the reefing lines back, but I need to change the outhaul configuration. Thanks!

You can pretty much do whatever you want to your boat. It's very common for sailboat owners to reconfigure things to suit their preferences. Make your changes, and, if they don't work out the way you expected, make some more changes. Simple as that.

Maybe your PO didn't intend to sail in reefing conditions. It's your boat now.
