In 2019 I took me sailboat to Port San Luis and wrote about it here with several postings in the thread at the link below. The Pier at Avila Beach was closed pending repairs. This past weekend (May 17-19, 2026) me mate and I visited Avila Beach by car. I noticed that the Pier has come a long way in repairs, but is not finished due to having run dry of funds to complete. The most seaward section is still in repair. A 501c(3) charity, www.AvilaPier.org, is formed called the "Friends of Avila Pier'' to raise the rest of the money. In my opinion, it's worth the support of our US West Coast Sailing Community and beyond. The building at the head of the Pier (image: left) is the Port San Luis Yacht Club
