Anyone get pushback from the Port Police, on getting an overnight anchor permit? I was told last night that if I belong to a local yacht club, you're not allowed to anchor in the area now. This is about anchoring and not mooring.

I'm not sure if this is one guys interpretation or not. My experience so far, at least until now, has been great. It's not like there's a shortage of space.

Anyone else run into this?

No, have not heard anything like that. People are anchoring near Island White in Long Beach without any permit. What area were you referring to? There should be something published, but I have never looked for it.

This sounds wrong. And besides: how would they know whether you were a member of a yacht club?

Are you talking about the anchorage area right off of Cabrillo Beach? Lots of room and typically few if any boats. Down Long Beach way boats frequently anchor off of Island White for the evening. Never heard of any problems there, either.

Don't know about long beach but here is a link to South Shore Harbor in New Orleans rate page. http://marinasinneworleans.com/SSHRatesf.htm . You can catch a cab into the French quarter tonight its cold in the 30s but there will be plenty partying with today being MardiGras . O and I was told by a local coast guard that you can anchor out in lake Pontchartrain anywhere as long as your not in a channel.

The word from the PoLA police is that there have been no changes to anchoring privileges off Cabrillo Beach in the designated anchorage area.

Yes, I was anchored off Cabrillo, between the two sea walls.

Normally guys are great.

I'll swing by and ask the watch commander personally when I'm down next.

Did you contact them directly? I got a spiel about younger officers not knowing the "rules."
