port hole screens

We have a 2006 350 and have always had problems fitting the screens that came with the side ports. There doesn't seem to be a way to get these to fit snugly, or I'm missing something? Anyone have a clue how I can get them to fit? Is there a secret? They are the Lewmar(I think) ports with the rounded ends around 8-10 long.

what kind of boat? (350 is a term which can apply to numerous mfgs).
On Hunters and many other boats, there are clips which slide to hold the screens in.

Since I posted to the Catalina Owners Forum, I assumed that readers would assume it was a Catalina. Go figure!

Ed, the way to "figure it" is that some of us use the option to view all posts, from all types of boats, which is one of the things that makes this board so helpful. Systems are similar from manufacturer to manufacturer, so we can chime in to help more than just one brand. Electronics, for instance, nor portlights, are specific to one brand of boat. And if you complete your signature or log in information that appears whenever you post to include your boat then we'll all know. Don was just trying to be helpful.

I have a friend with a C400 who has the same problem as you as there is no means to hold or lock his screens. Not an elegant solution but some judicious use of velcro was his solution.

Alternatively, you could try some clips similar to those used to hold screens on screen house doors.

Ed...it is not too difficult once you get the hang of it. The problem is that it is much easier show someone how than it is to describe the process. As you surmised, they install from outside. They squeeze between the gasket and the frame. The trick is to get them there without pushing them on through. It can be frustrating at times, but when you get them in, they stay in pretty well until somebody kicks them in carelessly. You can close the ports when they are in but it is hard on the clamps.

I start by sticking the bottom with the two tabs in place. Then I gently push the edge of the screen in, moving clockwise, and starting at 7:00. By the time you get to 3:00, the screen is bowed and when you get between 4:00 and 5:00 you have to push it the rest of the way in very gently, but firmly, and hope you don't go too far (sheesh this would sound disgraceful out of context).
