Some do. They stop doing it when they hit a wave/wake and their entire interior gets soaked.

When I have my Mac 25 I always sailed with the top up unless there were small craft warning is out.

hello all

when I had me Mac25 I sailed with the poptop up, but had it braced and secured so it would not come back down.... but I only sailed it on a lake... never in the ocean...

sincerely
Jess

When conditions warrant, yes, but it'll mess with your boom vang when downwinding.

You never have to worry with a Macgregor, if it fills up with water, the foam will keep you from sinking (wink ...wink). BTW I never sail with the top up.

I did, but had some braces to help support the side to side stress.

rarely did I take waves over the side... (or even spray) if it was over 3' sea or over 18knts true, it went down.

mac's have very high freeboard.

with the top up, its so much easier to go below. and cooler below too.

I almost always have the pop top up.

Down when it rains hard.
Down when coming into a new marina for better visibility.
I avoid bad weather.
Lots of freeboard and a very light boat. It would take a very large wave under sail power to get water in my boat.
