MacGregor 22 poptop Mystic
I recently purchased a MacGregor 22 with the pop-top however the supports for the pop-top are missing. What do they look like? Are they available? Can they be made? How about the 'apron' to enclose the cabin when the top is up? Are there plans or can one be purchased?

Some of us have rplaced the supports with gas shockd. See boat information under Mac 25.
The covers can be bought but only used. Most have made ourselve or had them made, They infrequently show up on Ebay.

I made a second set for my boat. I used SS tubing 1" diam. I flattened each end with a hammer and at about 45 degrees. You can make them too long as they need to support the poptop as a rest. I will see if I can put something together and post it. It may be crued, but it will show you the basic design.

Here is a crued drawing of the support.

Gregg, your drawing must have been too"crude";)

My top supports are made out of conduit like Gregg describes.....likely because the originals are lying at the bottom of some body of water:doh:

This is the best picture I have and the boat has not been opened for the season yet. If you can wait I plan on opening the boat up in the next couple of weeks.

Just a little trick to keep from loosing your new supports overboard is to tie them together so they won't become a BLOOP.

If you're going to the trouble of making two, you might as well make an extra one.

mine float

That foam tubing for water pipe insulation will fit snugly to the support and will float it. They also don't clunk around so much when stowed (tossed) below.

Mine has clips that mount them to the ceiling of the pop top.

I've used that on my winch handle as well. And I've had to go back for it once. I WORKS!

Re: Foam Insulation

Hi, I just finished installing the gas struts on my Mac-25 last night. Of all the stuff that's been done to this boat this has to be the best. You can put it up and take it down without straining your back.
