Pop Top Help

I am curious to find out from other owners with a pop top. The advertisment that I have for an 1973 Oday 23 mentions a winch for raising the the pop top. I have never seen one in my boat, but I can easily see how this can come in handy due to the weight of the pop top. Currently my pop top is not working, the support arm have broken away. Has anyone else ran into something like this and how did you fix it? I have been thinking about installing gas supports or some sort of after market fix.

I have a poptop 1970, I'll take some pics next time I'm down at the boat and show you what it looks like. It has a set of wires that run from the Vberth to each of the support posts. As far as the weight, yes it is a heavy poptop, and I think in addition to the gas supports, you would need the support arms to keep it up in position. I have yet to find any info regarding sailing with the poptop in the open position, if you know of any, I'd be interested. Chuck
