wow

Wow... 73 views...And no responses...I am no FG expert, but I will not leave you hangin like that! LOL The short answer is, NO. The long answer is yes, but it will require a tremendous amount of FG work. Depending on how bad you want it, and how big your...well,...How brave you are...(hahaha) I would be glad to snap some pics of mine for a reference. It is a very simple system consisting of a couple of bows, strapped in, that pivots the top forward, and upward. The biggest issue would be cutting the existing top very carefully, because that would become the pop top...Then you would have to build a lip on both parts, but mainly on the cabin top to help it seal...The lip on mine is very wide, and would require A LOT of FG work. But, I believe anything is possible, if you want it bad enough. I already have some pics up on my site... Good luck, and let me know if I can help in any way. Skip

Here's what

I don't think people here wanted to leave you hanging but like myself weren't sure how to respond. I dream like that too, that's how inventions come about. In this case it is my opinion that if you want a pop top I'd sell your 21 unless you have resources to go buy another boat. I'd buy a 26S or C and you'll have your pop top and more room by far. Then you can spend all your time sailing which is what life should be about. Just my opinion but I wish you luck no matter what you decide. The pop top conversion would require you to make the top extend outside the lip of the cabin top so water intrusion could be avoided. I think that is your biggest construction challenge. Steve P.

Clarification

I do not mean modifying the hull like a regular pop top, I was more thinking about the existing slider instead popping up.

That's a horse of a different color

I see. I don't know what that would buy you but perhaps you could make it easily removable and accomplish the same thing. You'd then need a place to store it while it was out but there should be someplace to park it. Thanks for clearing that up, it's a whole different animal as it were. Perhaps you could then construct a tarp or cloth sun cover like a bimini for shade. It also depends on where you sail. If it's inland lakes no problem, it you're out in the ocean or large bodies of water a knockdown could sink you with the cabin open like that. Steve P.

21pop

I'm not sure how much you'ld gain by doing this. The distance between the slider and the boom on my 21, as I recall, is only about a foot. This wouldn't open things up very much. I think it's a better deal to just slide the hatch forward.

Continued.

Boat is being used as an overnighter / long weekender on an inland lake. (Large for the Southwest - 25 to 30 miles.) We had a lot of rain this fall, and I first thought of the slider coming off - as stated, storage? I rig a tarp as a bimini over the boom to keep rain out, but an enclosure seems nice. Space to boom - appx 1 foot. Worth it? Space on a 21? I thought of a slide / brace arrangement or gas struts and a mostly window enclosure. It seemed simple on first thought.
