The last two times when we have the holding tank pumped out, the tank indicator indicated that it was still half full. Do you think there is a problem with the sending unit, or is it still half full? Thanks for the help Russell Egge

Only one way to find out

Open the inspection port and look inside the tank. (Alternatively, if the tank is plastic, and you can see any side of it, shine a flashlight on it and see where the "high water mark" is). OTOH, there are a couple of clues that might give you an idea which it is: does your holding tank seem to hold as much as it did, or is it filling up much faster than it used to? If it doesn't seem to be filling up any faster, it's prob'ly the sender.

Sending Unit Problem Likely

Jim Russell had the same problem on his 340 holding tank gauge. He can supply the details. So far mine is working fine on my 340.

knock it off?

We were getting false readings on our holding tanks too and were advised by service to lightly tap the sender with a small rubber mallet so that any tenacious materials would fall off rendering a more accurate reading. It worked! And, your tank MAY have a small valve that you can open allowing you to squirt water on the sender (try a turkey baster) to clean it. /c s/v Twilight

Me Too

Russell We had the same problem at the end of last season on our 98 H376. The holding tank gauge never read below half full even after pumpout. The water tank gauge always read full until just before the tank went dry. The sending units on both the gauges were bad and had to be replaced. Tom LaRocco H376 Follow the Sun

Sender gauge flusher

The Wema holding tank sending units are very prone to blockage from buildup of minerals and other stuff that can't be mentioned on the air <g>. Wema has a gauge with a backflush for this purpose, which I'm currently looking into but have not actually tried yet.
