polyurethane gloss or varnish on cabinet doors?

Thinking of refinishing the cabinet doors below. I like the gloss or semi-glos look. Any problem with using a good polyurethane?

No problem with the poly but

I suggest you go with the semi gloss. If you use gloss it will be a liitle "much" IMHO

don, thanks for your suggestion...

I think that they were originally oiled without any sealer. Do I need to strip them first and if so with what. I was planning on a very light sand and then tack cloth wipe.

Oil finish removal

I found the easiest way was to spray on Castrol Superclean, let sit 10-15 seconds and wipe with damp sponge. In places two or more applications may be needed.

where do you find castrol superclean?

In auto, dept. or boating stores?

K-Mart,Walmart,Auto supply stores. About $6/$7 a gallon

I used Minwax poly, water based, three coats, and it looks great on the interior. There was practically no smell, and I could recoat quickly even though I waited a week between coats. Weekend projectsgood luck with you projectBarry
