I rigged a low Sunbrella awning over my forward dodger window. It did not touch, so no chafe. It kept the bird bombs off, so much less cleaning. And it kept the UV mostly off the Strataglass, so much longer life. I was at 14 years and counting when I sold the boat. I had covers for all of the windows, though they are not in place in this image. The white supporting lines are actually jacklines, though something could be arranged on any boat.

From my understanding... polycarbonate panels are normally sewn and glued/sealed to the fabric. I have scene DIY replacements where the seamstress carefully pre drills a hole pattern around the edge of the poly with the smallest drill that would pass a needle. Then hand stitched. With good skill is looks as good as a machine. I believe the sealant is allowed to cure before stitching. There maybe a sealant tape that is avaliable. That would be easier.

Covers for the clear can be good. Make sure the inner surface is soft. Wash off all salt before installing to prevent scratching. Periodically remove and reclean be dust will get in between. Probably best to remove if you know there will be alot of wind because when you get the most abrasion.
