No. This is not intended to be a what is better - wax or Poly Glow debate. I saw that Practical Sailer reviewed this product and called it a "no brainer" meaning they liked it a lot. The stuff still had a shine and was beading water after three years in the Florida sun. Pretty impressive. My gel coat is still in good shape and polish's up to a good shine - see photo. I use Collinite for my after polish protection. My question is, why not use this product on a boat that's still in good shape? Everything I've read says Poly Glow is a restoration type product. What gives?

the obvious answer?

I look at it as analogous to putting it on a new car - it won't preverse a well maintained finish any more on a boat than it would on a car. So if you already have a boat which shines, I guess my question is what value-added would there be to using this, or it's equivalent products, on a new(er) boat? From their advertizing, it seems that the manufacturer is aiming at a simple product used to bring back a dull finish.

Work works...

as always there really are no shortcuts on this..you get out of it what you put into it...new boats should have several coats of PASTE WAX put on and maintained bi-annually.Liquid waxes work..but nothing beats paste wax..ask Practical Sailor. BTW;try it in your mast track as well..works better than most lubes on mainsail tracks. >> DAVID

Car -vs- Boat

Last time I checked, most cars do not have gel coat which is what this product restores and protects. Right? Let me know if I've missed something. If I can use a product that keeps my boat shiny and protected for three years, why would I bother with wax which is simply a protectant that lasts a few months? The question, which was possibly posed poorly in the original post, is it a good idea to use poly glow as protection for gel coat that is either new or has received proper maint.?

I used Poly Glow on a 1969 Cal 2-30 with amazing results. The Cal had been on the hard for 4 years and was highly sun bleached and the gel coat was faded and the Cal blue stripes were light blue insted of dark blue, I tried all types of restorers, no luck and was about to re-paint.Was introduced to poly Glow at the Chicago boat show, tried it and the Cal turned out looking like a new boat and the dark blue came back to its original state. I highly recomend Poly Glo on a boat that has lost its original luster. The secret is in the clean up before you aply Poly glow and be sure to follow instructions they provide. I aplied it 3yrs. ago and this years hull prep was a wash with soap and water.
