I am refinishing below decks and my mast looks pretty grimy. I would like to polish it but it is anodized however it will be below decks and I will clearcoat it when done any suggestions or recommendations or perhaps words of warning against doing this. I have no intention of touching the anodization above decks I would be grateful for some input. I understand the importance of anodization as a Corrosion barrier.

I've never polished my mast , however I've wrapped it in cord below deck( for insolation and the cat loved it). Our current boat has a zip on cover that helps keep the boat warmer in winter.

I think depending on whether the boat is newer or older design, wrapping it looks more nautical-like.
And who could ignore the improvement for the cat?!

I’ll take a look at some of the wrappings might be a good idea, thanks

The first time I did this I picked a colour out of the upholstery, the second time with 1/4 in. hemp rope. Just did my wheel on the boat with #30 tarred twine in a French whipping that looks very nice but may take forever on a mast.
