Kinda sad that they hit the boats and then just took off. One sank.

Sadly the reporter isn't very good and there's not much more information I could find beyond this. Glad I'm not on the Potomac anymore, though.

They won't have any problem resolving that.

It's the District

They are all out of control there. But to give credit where it's due, they are pretty good at making sure all the boats in DC waters have paid their taxes.

Bozo's of the inth degree.

Most people would be brought up on charges.
This'll quiet down in about a week..

I'd expect nothing less from anything coming out of DC.
I did note that they had their flashy blue lights on so perhaps they where engaged in a life and death situation where somebody didn't pay their taxes and seqesterazation had reduced funding to critical levels.

Does anyone know if they returned after their "purported" emergency? Or if in fact there was an emergency?

I wonder if the police boat will sport a icon of a Sea Ray with a red circle and slash on it's side? Seriously, if someone was on that boat they would likely have been killed.

The latest video that I could find shows the boat refloated with bags and being towed somewhere. My guess is that the engines/propeller tore open the hull on the docked boat.

When the Blue Thunder US customs boats were docked in Bimini, they could rarely make a trip without blowing at least one engine and/or damaging the boats.
I suggested hiring professional captains to operate these high speed ocean racing cats.
After all, it would only take someone a month or so to master the law enforcement side of the operation, especially when accompanied by experienced agents, but professionalism operating boats can not come from a classroom, only from experience and that cannot be gained in a month or so.
No takers though; the way the system worked (works?), according to the agents, was that the janitor in a federal building had a better chance of being hired than an experienced, professional captain.
Pretty much the same story at a marina I managed on the west coast of Fla, too, but different boats.
It seems LEO's and boats really do not mix well.

Tonight's news report had the following statement from the Metro Police Dept - It is not clear that they are at fault.

I am not sure what to say.

They showed the damage on national news tonight. The propeller tore out about a six foot section of the hull at or near the waterline. When you hit a legally parked vehicle it is all your fault.

Yeah I watched it again, and the interviewer said that they were cracking down on speeding boats lately. Yepper, that oughta teach 'em a lesson..

It looked to me like the jack@$$ didn't even let off the throttle after he crashed into it as if he has a right to do that. I'd be going after a new replacement, not value.

That crew will have a lot of explaining to do.

It's not just on the Potomic. I have seen the Florida marine patrol do things they would write you up for. Who watches the watchers? They will more than likely bury it and cover it up. Standard operating procedure.
