I think you will be much happier in the long run.
To those trying to remove it our shrink wrapper did a good job removing it on the areas he heated. It shriveled and was sanded off.

I must add to this thread- I blocked, buffed , polished and waxed last year- a huge job- BUT, when I came to do it this year, I was shocked how quickly I got the job done this year- the whole top sides in less than 8 hours and it looks GREAT! I am sure the wax I used (Collinite trade wax) played a big part, but obviously it was the hard yards last year in getting the gelcoat back to pristine.
