My husband would like to know how high can the Hunter 23 sails on the wind (how high does it point)? Of course, based on your experiences. He is used to how a San Juan 24 performs. He knows it won't point as high but how big a difference is there?

We are looking at a 1985 now that has a lot of good features. The brilliant young man came up with a system to raise and lower the mast in a matter of minutes very safely. We like the set up for the keel as opposed to the San Juan 23 system.

Also, it has this funky fuzzy carpet stuff all over the upper part of the cabin inside that we would like to remove. I do a lot of sewing and crafts, I have recovered furniture and taken off wall paper but never worked on a boat. Making the new cushions and drapes will be no problem. Do you know what we are looking at when trying to remove the fuzzy stuff and how hard it would be to leave it natural, if it is not loaded with glue spots underneath it. Do you have any suggestions? We would appreciate any advice you could give us.

Thanks,
Laura

pointing

When we added a compass to our h23 I got to playing with pointing ability, and it worked out to about 80 degrees tack to tack, about 40 degrees off the wind. Of course, just like any other sailboat that you try pinching up, the performance suffered noticiably.
I'm curious about your plans after stripping off the cabin's liner. It seems to prevent condensation on cold days, and I wouldn't be surprised if it provides some acoustial insulation value and sound absorbtion for noises arising inside the cabin (important for those with kids). I had to peel it back a bit when installing our gennie tracks. The adhesive seemed like regular carpet cement, but I don't claim to be an expert. I don't recall what I used to put it back. Do you plan to put something else up, or are you planning to go with the plain painted fiberglass?
Anyway, good luck.
