My H34 has the gray ploybutydine (spelling?) tubing for hot & cold water lines... this stuff was once used in houses, but discontinued due to defects.... ....has anyone found a source for replacement fittings etc? (don't see any in West or BoatUS catalogs)... maybe RV places? Or a developed work-around for augmenting with more standard hoses etc? Thanx

Low's Hardware is were I got mine.

The tubing is now white but all the fittings work with the gray tubing..

True Value H/W, Solomomns, MD

The True Value Store along MD2-4 in Solomons MD has a good supply of fittings, etc. That's not too far from your area, and Solomons is a delightful place to visit. Stop by the Calvert Marine Museum and also grab a good meal while you are here. Alternatively, maybe you could call Harlan, the guy at the store that really knows hardware and have 'em ship you what you need. Last resort - try an RV store.

Suppose to be good stuff for boats.

Ted: I believe the reason that it was discontinued for home was due to leaks with high pressures that you may receive in a domestic system. I asked the same question of my "Boat Doctor" that has worked on my boat and he loves the stuff. This guy is very good so I must assume that he knows what he is talking about. I would assume that you can get it in many different places and the RV stores or home improvement centers would be the place to look.

I THINK polybutylene is blue...

At least, that's what color the pipe coming into my house from the water main was. Whether it also comes in gray or not, I'm a big believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" (that philosophy does NOT apply to preventive MAINTENANCE, however!!). Whatever it is, it's not leaking...even if it springs a leak, worst case: it drains your water tank into the bilge. So you have a wet bilge--which you prob'ly have anyway...it's not enough to sink the boat, and your bilge pumps will get rid of most of it. So scope out the sources for replacement materials--but don't buy 'em UNLESS/until you need 'em. Meanwhile, if you just have to make work for yourself, rebuild the toilet...it's prob'ly way past time to do that anyway, and that's one thing you DON"T want to wait till it's broke to fix it.

Name of Tubing

Is "Quest" the name of this tubing you are talking about... great stuff used in RV's because it will freeze and not burst....

UPDATE

Many thanx to all who responded... I found the tubing & fittings at our local LOWE's home store... (will visit the True Value in Soloman's soon too!) Home Depot does not carry the stuff, probably due to past liability issues.... & yes, the manufacturer is QEST.... ...further FYI, I found that standard PVC threads work in joining up with the QEST fittings....
