The previous owner plumbed a 1 1/2" diverter valve just downstream of my head outlet. One side is plumbed to a 1 1/2" ball-valve/thru-hull. I added a vented loop that is above the water line at any angle of heel. The other side of the valve was plumbed to a 3 gallon holding tank with no outlet except the vent. I think he did it to pass an inspection somewhere. The tank was never used (thank God). I replaced the tank with a Raritan Lectrasan and plumbed one side of the diverter valve to the Lectrasan inlet. On the outlet side of the Lectrasan I put a second vented loop (again higher than the water line at any level of heel). I want the down-stream side of both vented loops to discharge to the same discharge ball-valve/thru-hull. My question is this: Can I use a Y fitting to hook the two discharge hoses together or should I have another diverter valve? Any help appreciated, Thanks

You need a pump

Far be it for me to tell somebody what to do with their poop. In Hawaii I imagin that the holding tank is just used untill you get "out to sea" and so don't need a pumpout port. Your Lectrasan is a type 1 or 2 MSD and so don't need a port except in a very few places where you cannot discharge at all. With that said, how do you pump the tank out. Just pumping the head will not cause the tank to get pumped overboard as the tank has a vent. You would normaly find a mercerator on the outlet side of the tank which pumps "over the hump" of the vented loop. Since you have a Lectrasan, you don't need a mercerator but do need a pump of some kind to empty the tank. I'm not up on my Lectrasan products so it may already have a pump in it for this purpose. If that is the case you are good to go with your plumbing scheem otherwise you need a pump that can handle semi-solds. A rubber vane impeller pump would work fine. I'd shy away from centrifugal pumps or pumps with valves.

Whether you can even use the same thru-hull

depends on how far it is from the L/S. If it's no further than about 6', you can. And, with a y-valve in place to choose between going directly overboard or overboard through the L/S, you should be able to get away with only a tee. Bill, he said he REPLACED the tank with a L/S, so he doesn't need to worry about how to empty it.

I thought so

The tank is gone. So the pump on the toilet (the hand pump that you pump when you flush) pumps the waste through the Lectrasan and out. That's how it operates. Peggy: The Lectrasan is only 2 feet from the head, then another 2 feet to the through hull. I was thinking a Tee (or a Y shaped fitting, which I happen to have) would work. I just didn't want to do it without running it by someone else first. Thanks for the help.
