Plumbing changes

Hello folks
I have read up on several post on here about plumbing.
I presently have the head going thru a Y valve to the holding tank or to the thru hull under the water line. There is also a deck pump out port.
I want to install a macerator pump but keep the existing ability to pump directly overboard when out to sea.
Peggy Hall suggested in a previous post about a new hole in the tank direct to the pump but did not mention how to T in the 1 inch pump out let to my thru hull.
Has anyone got their boat fitted in the manner i describe? give me some suggestions or even a line drawing would be much appreciated.

My boat has a Y like yours for direct overboard or to the tank, the macerator is plumbed to a separate smaller 1 inch thruhull. Mine was a factory installed option so I imagine the macerator was already in place and just the section from the wye to the much larger thru hull was added.

Her suggestion is probably the best. I would however, as close to the tank as possible, do a Y off the deck pump out line to the macerator and then a 1" to a new through hull. The only thing to remember is this is to keep the deck cap on with a good gasket. Good luck!

We have ours set up with the head going to the holding tank, then from holding tank to Y-valve, Y-valve to on deck pump out - - OR Y-valve to Manual Gusher pump to thru hull discharge . Works great. We hardly ever use thru hull discharge so didn't want the expense of a Macerator that would just sit there and get used a few times a year.

Rick's post spurred my memory, the suction side of my macerator is plumbed into a PVC Tee in the deck pump out line next to the tank.

I really dont want to put another hole in the hull and therefore want to join into the present seacock but i do want to keep the ability to go directly over the side without filling the tank. If the macerator failed i would be in trouble, there arent too many pump outs in blue water.

Keep it simple and plumb it as MrBee suggests above. In your case, install the macerator between the Y and your existing thru hull. Keep a splice connection of the appropriate size in your spares such that if your pump were to fail you could bypass it and end up with basically the same setup you currently have with about 10 minutes of plumbing work.

Well then, you could always add another Y valve and plumb the macerator outlet to the head discharge just ahead of the through hull. I have not seen this done but can't quickly think of why it wouldn't work.
