can the fuel tube be removed without removing the tank? also are the tubes flexible? also is there a screen at the bottom of the tube?

On my 87 272LE, I had to remove the tank for cleaning, too much crud inside. While out I saw the screen in the pickup and after consulting with others, removed it. My pickup and return tubes were not flexible, and the tank would've had to be removed to get to them.

I also cut about 20 " off the aft end of the bulkhead alongside the aft quarter berth to give me room to get it out. Between my steering quadrant (pedestal steering with cables) and the bulkhead, it was a real tight fit.

Take the tank out, clean out the inside, and get that screen out of there!

Don't forget the filter in your fuel pump. If your O'Day was built like mine the fuel pump is in the fuel circuit right after the tank and before the main fuel filter. The screen in the pump can get clogged and restrict flow. If the pump is after the main filter it is likely OK but worth checking. I have since re-plumbed my system as have many others so the pump is after the main filter.
