I have a 1978 30 foot Hunter with a roller furling. I would like to install a plow anchor / anchor roller. Has anyone experienced such an installation. It appears that the anchor roller will have to be offset from the center of the boat. Detailed information would be appreciated -- thanks! Jim

Bow Rollers

We installed a bow roller on our Tartan 33. We actually centered the roller on the bow by loosening the pulpit and drilling holes through the bow roller base plate. Reinstalled the pulpit and put a backing plate inside the v-berth to tie it all together. You could install the bow roller offset so you would not have to disturb the pulpit. Was difficult to install only in the fact the working inside the v-berth tightening the bolts in the very small space was a challenge. Once completed, I am very happy with the set up. I've done this

I added a Windline URM-4 model bow roller to hold a Delta 22 on our 78 H30. I did have to offset it from the centerline, but it seems to work fine. I set it so that it still was parallel to the centerline, just offset enough to clear the headstay. You can through bolt it and access the nuts and backing plates from the anchor locker. Make sure you trial fit the anchor on the roller before you start drilling. You need enough overhang to clear the flukes from the hull. Sorry no pics, but it was pretty straight forward. It is a nice addition and still allows a danforth style anchor to live in the locker as a spare. Good luck

Me too!

I installed an anchor roller a few years back on my 1980 H30. I put a Simpson-Lawrence KBR-20 on the bow for use with my #15 Danforth. I offset the roller somewhat so that it would have a straighter lead to the bow cleats. I had to remove one of the jib tack reefing hooks and move one chock back a little. There is plenty of room forward of the anchor locker hatch and you have access under the deck for backing plates.
