Has anyone installed pleated port light shades on the inside of you boat? If so how much longer and wider did you make the measurements than the actual port? It would be great to see some pictures if possible
Thanks

Hi Keith, our 1991 boat came equipped with pleated cloth blinds that remain in good condition to this day. We hand cleaned them in our bath tub with a mild detergent when we took possession in 2002. They look similar to these here: http://www.oceanair.co.uk/marine/products/skysol-pleatedshade

I'll try to remember to take pictures of ours the next time to the boat. They work quite well and use small looped lanyards that wrap a small plastic retainer attached to the liner to keep them either open or closed.

Ditto for us! our 2002 356 was ordered with them and they've worked great, easy to clean.
I'd make the shade - rectangle - large enough to cover the aluminum frame around the port. you can go a little bigger on width, and length if there's room

Keith, same for us on our 2003 356 as the previous owner had the pleated shades installed most likely when the boat was new. Shades are rectangular and cover the port windows and at least a couple of inches below where the press studs are located. Normally leave the shades down as it gives cooling during direct sun light but lets enough light through to leave the cabin airy and well lit. At night gives great privacy if at the dock or in close proximity to other boats at anchor. Gives a good option of privacy and shade or light through the port windows.

Only issue we have now is that some of the storage straps are getting dry rotted from the sunlight and heat most likely. Need to replace them but believe the pleated shades are still in good shape. Anyone else have that issue and if so was it easy to get replacement straps?

We put snaps on ours to hold them up and down. Works pretty good.

Hi Jeff, our small nylon cord straps remain in good condition. At some point, when any of ours need replacing I would sew in new stock nylon cord to replace those that break, either by hand or with a machine. It appears to be an easy fix, IMHO. The small nylon hooks that the straps affix will probably never wear out.

Our 2003 Hunter 356 came with them and they have snaps on small straps to hold them up and snaps on the bottom to hold against the window. In really cold weather, we sometimes let them hand straight down and that allows the HVAC air to circulate and reduce the window frame condensation. We really like the look and functionality.

Ours need replacing as they have gotten a bit aged. We tried to wash them, but it did not get the soot out from cruising with the companionway open and the HVAC running. It's on our list for replacement.

They are available on this site at the store. They were originally made by Oceanaire.

My experience has been the store has stuff not searchable. Send a note to
Phil and ask him.

The following image shows our 1991 pleated shade partly open. The top cord is used to stow the shade closed by wrapping the cord around a knob beneath the shade. The small loop cord is used to hold the shade open by hooking it on a knob above the shade.

This image shows the knob below the shade that is used by the longer cord shown in the above image to secure the shade closed.

These shades came with the 1991 model boat. They remain quite serviceable. The only thing we have done is to wash them in a mild detergent in the bath tub when we purchased Belle-Vie in 2002.

I have these that came stock on my 2007 H-36 and wish they were wider and over lap the window way more to help keep out the Sun here in Florida.
They use white strapping with snaps and I add foil window sun shading in summer to help keep out the Heat and Sun.

Hi Nick, ours overlap maybe an inch all around, but summer heat, except for maybe a day or two when it reaches the low to mid nineties, remains pretty moderate due to the coastal breezes on the west side of the Cascades. East side of the Cascades a different matter.
