Hell No!

What in the world kind of crap is this? I was in the Navy for 8 years, I support everything we are doing to combat terrorism including the Iraqi War. But.. I draw the line at having my privacy violated any more. We have over 11 million illegal aliens in this country that we can't seem to summon the will to do anything about. Now the CG wants to issue me another ID? What the heck good is that going to do? Some of you seem all too ready to allow anything in the name of National security. Well count me out. I don't necessarily trust the governement to have my personal best interests at heart particularly when they demonstrate that by making poor decision after poor decision about our borders. I register my boat and carry a drivers license. My solution is to harden the drivers license to make it impossible for illegals to get them. Keep a database of my boats registry. And leave me the hell alone.

(some german guy during hitlers rein) We already have what we need for ID in this country If we keep giving up our little freedoms here and there to (feel safe) we will all be in cages. Remember how russia was not to long ago and then read what there rights were supposed to be. From the peoples constitution. loks kinda like ours huh!

I belive there captain one of our forfathers kept the baptist church out of our gov. to make this a free country for all religions. Thomas Jefferson If i'm not mistaken was musslim. That don't have anything to do with your children.our national lang. is english was voted on twice. first vote was tied with german.chrisianity is not our national religion.since it was voted that we not have one. thanks and hope this will make you feel better about wanting more of our freedoms back.

Absolutely not!

When they (the feds) can't even check baggage handlers on their way to oad airplanes, why in the world would they think my carrying a 20th piece of ID will enhance security? Where is Ayn Rand when we need her? I can't wait for Atlas to shrug.

If they don't know who I am and where I live and what I do and where I shop, they probably even know what movies I rent and what I watch on TV. Then they are really dumb and I don't want to be anywhere near dumb people. It might rub off. We don't need any more Ids for the citizens of America. We need Ids of the illegals that do business with Bank Of America. Thats where we need the IDs. Not for boaters. I could go on and on but I won't bore y'all with my opinions Keep it up, Ctskip Ps Good line there BobW, more food for the island!

stupid! should we have bicyle ids too? for what purpose do they think it will really serve? a boat id i can imagine will cost $20+ bucks and it will be another way to tax us, under guise of security. they are unable to stop anything else unless they are law abiding citizens... they have yet to win the war on drugs that started 20 years ago, maybe he boater's id will tilt the scales!!! NOT!

Give me Liberty or Give me Death

The Citizines of this Great Nation already have plenty of ID issued to us. Each State issues a Drivers License with a boaters endorsement. There are SSN cards that are required by the Feds. For those that are not of driving age there are School Id's and County Id's. Why can't the Coasties just tap into these already existant databases for their Security purposes. We are also already regestering each boat from the 100+ footers down to the littlest dingies. Taxation with out representation is one of the reasons we established this great nation over 200 years ago. "We the People" run this country. Stand up and be heard! We cannot let this become a police state due to some nut bags over seas. If we do then they win. Freedom is a GOD given right. With that comes some risks. We just have to make sure that the consequenses of violating our freedom is so great that any sane human would never consider it. For those that are insane then DEATH becomes them. God Bless America.

although I'll disagree about freedom being a 'God-given right'. Leaving the whole 'God' part out of it, freedom is NOT a right, it's a privilege that many brave Americans have fought and died to secure. Like you, I fail to comprehend why we should give away some of these privileges just because a few disgruntled people on the other side of the world want to harm us. We're BETTER than they are, and we can deal with them without giving up any of our freedoms. Hmmmm, this thread is in GRAVE danger of being booted to the 'dark side'. Oceansail. Without getting into my poitical views and opinions, I mentioned in a previous post that we have a built in, legal revolution every year...It's called election day. And when that day comes, the pissed off people need to get out there and make the changes that they feel need to be made. And if you or I don't agree and your guy gets in, well that's democracy. Our wonderful country, for the most part has become complacent. We kind of just sit there and let the politicians do what they want. We believe everything they say and don't hold them accountable for anything. Men and women in the armed forces and the emergency services are dying every day to preserve the freedom that we have been given and it is not only our right, but our absolute responsibilty to stop anyone who tries to take that away...whether it's a terrorist, criminal or an elected official. We stop the terrorist and criminal with force of arms and we stop the elected official with force of finger...at the polls. Sorry, I got off topic, kind of. *box BTW, on the topic of posse comitatus, 10 USC 371-78 allows for certain armed forces (USCG) to assist civilian LE with certain tasks. The spirit behind that was for drug interdiction.

Freedom and Liberty are a fairy tale today

I REALLY hate to get on my soapbox. I've tried to hold my keyboard back, but can't any longer. Reality is that the U.S. is not a free country. Every move we make is closely controlled and managed. We do have political freedom, but that has been used to elect leaders have taken away every other freedom. Taxes, permits for everything, controls on what we can do with private property, etc make this country frankly much less free in many ways than China was 20 years ago when I was doing business there. Sure there was only 1 political party and anyone who protested was shot, but they had much more economic freedom than I do today. I can't think of a single action I take each day that is not tightly regulated, taxed and controlled by some level of government. We like to talk about the myths of freedom and liberty, but they are both long, long gone and now being used as emotional heart tugs to have us sacrifice money and lives for even greater losses of the very principles that we are supposed to have built this nation on. Old China and the Soviet Union used the exact same argument, national security, to enslave their populations for a generation. We won the cold war, then immediately adopted their socialistic economic models and totalitarian control over law abiding citizens to presumably defeat the enemy (who if won the war, would do exactly to us what we're doing now to prevent their victory). The very last thing we need is another permit and license of any kind whatsoever. Each additional thread on control government ties around you builds up until they are chains, but you won't even know it's happening until it's too late (like now unfortunately). I do look forward to the day Atlas shrugs, but by definition, it can't happen as those who create the wealth of our society are somewhat not capable of quitting. Sorry for the political soapbox, but having been boarded by the Coast Guard, Florida wildlife and fisheries, and others, searched and inspected without warrant or probable cause more than once proves my point. This clearly violates constitution, but is done and accepted on a regular basis. I sit on my boat at anchor and watch as the Coast Guard, Sheriff patrol, local police, and state department of wildlife and fisheries all motoring around stopping families trying to enjoy an afternoon on their boat wanting to see 'their papers' and insure they are following the nonsensical encyclopedia of rules and regulations. The one thing I'm certain of is that these families are not a threat to anyone, but are simply being harassed to create jobs for boys who want to be real soldiers, but don't have the balls to sign up. No, we don't need another license or boater certification or permit. I feel much, much safer on the water than on the highways with millions of properly tested and licensed drivers who have the IQ and sense of a rock. have a pleasant day and cheers!

Real ID

Homeland security is already trying to make states comlpy with a national data base ID, the Maine legislature voted not to participate a few weeks back. Estimates were it would cost Maine $150 million to comply, a figure close to what our annual budget was not to long ago. The country is in a panic, people and agencies aren't think clearly.

The government now has the right to grab you and stick you into a secret prison and then torture you until you confess of something. And if they don't have the stomach to REALLY torture you they can send you to another country where they have stronger stomachs....all without letting anyone know that they have you "detained"...scarey huh. Sounds like what the Chinese and Russians used to do. All that said I think that a national ID card loaded up with permits and licenses would be preferable to having to carry around a dozen cards. As to privacy there ain't none now get used to it!!!! The smart ID's could have a radio frequency chip that could be read as you are walking down the street or sailing down the waterway. The powers that be want have to stop us to know our life history. Isn't technology wonderful?? Our cell phones have GPS chips in them now so that someone knows where the cell phone is anytime it is turned on. That way you are never lost..big brother always knows. The only one who knows more about you than your big brother is god. They both know more about you than you do. what gets me is that with our all knowing government illegals can still come north and work unmolested by the law...I guess laws only apply to US citizens.

These rights and freedom are ours given to us by what put us on earth. We exchange some of those rights for the government to insure our safety and happiness. They are always ours to take back. As I look through my wallet I find four pieces of Federal ID and a couple of pieces from the State so I see no problem with producing a national form of ID if it is going to make us safer. Perhaps that would be preferable to carrying a passport to return from Mexico or Canada. This may look familiar to some of you. If it does not check the link and do study up on it. When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
