I removed my exhaust riser in the fall to get cleaned out, I was getting alot of soot on my transom. I purchsed a new gasget and installed riser, simple, 3 bolts, went together easy, put in antifreze and leaked out. I took it apart and used a little permatex still leaks. I did it again and let permatex set overnight then tighten still leaks. I've tried 5 times.I've called my diesel mechanicut he's so busy I don't know when he'll show up. Any idears, I want to get in the water in a week or so. thanks for any help

You didn't state what kind of engine you have. Or where exactly the leak was. I would first suggest that you try to determine exactly where the leak is. Around a bolt, top of the riser, bottom, etc. Then inspect that particular area. Also you didn't state how it was cleaned, but if it was vatted in a caustic solution and had a thin spot, the cleaning solution may have simply eaten through it. Can you give more specifics.

Mixing bowl

This sounds like the U-shaped unit that mixes exhaust with water. On Yanmars they typically last 3-5 years before coking up and choking the engine dead. Ship's store probably carries them for $150 apiece. I agree the leak could be coming from a pinhole. More important is the coking up of the interior, which see.
