We're still hanging in there on the upper Chesapeake. Winds have been kind of stupid lately but hoping for some more good sailing before the year ends.

Our local weather guy for SE PA says he thinks the current pattern will hold until Thanksgiving, then we'll start with the winter pattern.

Kinda bummed if this weekend is good, because I have to work Saturday, and we have club awards banquet brunch on Sunday. If the weather is good Sunday (as it was last year,) I'll be wishing I was out on the Force 5 again!

Our awards banquet is this Saturday as well, but I might get a chance to sail earlier in the day. Sunday for sure for the shackleton Cup. This whole week is been amazing but I have not had a chance to get out. Today is just the same but I decided to work from the boat because I couldn't stand the thought of sitting in the office all day. So this is the view out my open window.

Wow, all the trees are dying! Just kidding, grew up in Maine and I know all too well what you have coming. Our best sailing season is just getting started.

Had a great therapeutic sail today on the Patapsco. Winds were 11 knots out of the North West. There are definitely a few good days left.

My Beneteau club has our lunch/meeting/election on Saturday. Still hoping for some weather to get back on the water before the end of the year.

You guys have it so lucky. I spent Tuesday night driving to spend Wednesday with the green frog, Kermit, replacing the centerboard line.. Then spent Wednesday night traveling home. I did not see Kermit on his unicycle but boy he was sweating like a pig lowering the centerboard out and then back up into the boat. Maybe Miss Piggy Kermit should be appropriate?

Same stuff here. Still has not been below freezing here. Back at it today.

Plying hooky seems to be contagious. Ward & I enjoyed the Bay almost entirely to ourselves on Veterans Day. Just a little wind didn't hurt, either. We were double reefed as the wind was in the 20's for almost the entire ride. We put about 25 nautical miles under the keel in a little over 4 hours. I think Ward knows the details.

Here's Ward after limping into harbor. We were a little chilled after a full day in the wind.

I had to trust Ward that we wouldn't run aground while he piloted us over an area on the chart that shows 3'. I think we saw about 6' at the minimum. The wind piling water into the corner of the bay probably helped. We figured US Tow wasn't very busy after all.

It can't last forever, but the next three days are at 60° plus, and only a 10% cent chance of precip. And a 90% chance of one of them being a solid hooky day.

Jackdaw, we will see what we can do to send some of our rain your way.... Prognosis is for rain, snow and chilly conditions the next 2 weeks. This puts a bit of a crimp in my Pre-Thanksgiving overnight cruise ideas.
Who knows maybe I can forget about the "I'm melting" rain problem and play hooky.... There is always pastry and coffee in Poulsbo.

Was down working on the boat today, repairing my whisker pole track on the front of the mast. Was really difficult staying in the slip- 79 degrees, sunny, 11 knots of wind. I really feel for those who's season is ending. Glad to live where I can sail year round
Me too! It's just getting good down here!

Found out at our awards banquet that another guy I love to sail with has his son's Laser, and he bought a dry suit. He's been going to another lake and racing every Sunday. So either I go race with them, or Mike comes out and sails with me. I also told Craig, who was asking me about drysuits, to get his on order. Then there will be three of us with Lasers (and my Force 5.) I don't see a need to quit sailing yet this season!

I've seen those guys with like a hand held delta kite, and just ice skates. It's like windsurfing pared down to the bare minimum. I'd like to try that.

@Jackdaw and I took yesterday off and this was the result. My boat had a fubar'd sail slug so we took Blue J out. Wind was supposed to build to 13 but, it was 14 -20 for most of the day, 60 degrees. Made for an awesome downwind run back with the asym. Jackdaw has more pics. I am hauling out on Sunday, maybe one more quick sail that day if I can find my sail slugs to remedy my issue. Snow and rain Friday.

Did not suck. Asym a MUCH better choice... 14+knts on the beam would have made for a hair-raising reach with the symmetric on the pole.

Still a bit of a trick in the puffs, but a little turn-down keeps the boat on her feet... usually.

OK the end is near. A cold front passed through yesterday, creating a Full Gale on Lake Superior and 40 knots and snow here. I went to check on BlueJ and she was fine, if a little strained against her lines.

But today better. The lake was is still so warm that the WM heater I leave on freeze-protect never came on, and indeed it was warm in the boat. She'll be out in a week, but ready for a sail tomorrow!
