I’ve noticed that there seem to be a lot of people here, both on boats and on shore, who came for a visit and just never left. I see on the bronze plaque attached to a house that this is where Aaron Burr came to let the heat die down after killing Alexander Hamilton in a duel. In his shoes, I think that’s just what I would have done.
Looking at the waterline growing on the dinghy, I decided it was high time to test the bonds and see if I can tear myself away. I mean, I even joined the yacht club. So, I was up before the sun retrieving and stowing away my stern anchor and gear. I was all squared away for a dawn departure except there was no dawn.
Normally, I have few qualms about getting underway in fog but the charts in this soft and squishy part of the world are not nearly as accurate as among the granite ledges of home. The tide was falling and, besides, the reason for going anywhere is to see it.
I moved into the dock to drop off trash and have breakfast ashore. Here’s the view from the deck at 0945:
Not the slightest sign of lifting. Will I ever get out of Saint Marys? Keep an eye on my SPOT.
