Plastimo Compass Problems

I have a "Plastimo Contest" compass, it leaked a small amount of oil. When I took it out of its casing I discovered that there were only 2 of 8 stainless steel screws holding the part of the compass that contains the oil and card into the case, I replaced these and the leaking has stopped. The question is has anyone ever sent their compass to Plastimo for service? And where did you send it? I now have a small bubble in the oil and would like that repaired. I e-mailed the Plastimo people in France and they told me to take it to where I bought it. It came with the boat and has never been installed. Where can I send it?? Responses are greatly appreciated Dwight Thomas

Plastimo USA

Here is a question from the Plastimo USA website: My compass has a bubble. What should I do ? The cell of the Plastimo compasses is designed to be completely fluid filled. If you notice a permanent bubble, in a temperature range from -20° to +60°C, it means that your compass is leaking (as the fluid tends to evaporate, you may not have seen the actual leak path). Contact our after-sales department for advice. I am not exactly sure where the "after-sales" department is, but you can contact Plastimo thusly: Contact Plastimo USA 7455 16th Street East, Suite 107 Sarasota, FL 34243 Toll-free 866.383.1888 Toll-free fax 866.214.1400 email: info@plastimousa.com Hope you can use this info. DIY fix

If you already repaired the leak, it is a simple matter to replace the fluid. There is a bled hole screw on the side of the compass. With a syringe, invert the compass so the bleed screw is vertical, open the screw hole and inject the fluid to displace any remaining air. The compass fluid is commonly available at most marine stores. Don
