All Plastic...

...isn't junk. But, I did replace mine with a bronze unit for about $80 on haul out. I wanted to use dripless packing and it requires more shaft clearance. You might consider a dripless unit for about $180 discounted. Good luck, RD

I agree . . .

with Rick and Sam. Its usually the stuffing that wears out, not the plastic box. I had a plastic box on my 28.5 that was still going strong after 13 yrs. and have one on my 33.5 thats good after 11 yrs. If you don't like fussing with it (re-packing and adjusting) spend the $$ for the dripless. Check the archives, there was lots of info on the dripless in a guest forum a couple of months ago.

Yuk plastic.

Anthony: I disagree with you on the JUNK plastic on the stuffing box. I think if you had a bronze one and that you did not lube and adjust regularly you mite find that the corrosion would be more of a pain in the butt. I must agree that these new dripless seals are the ultimate way to go. About $180 + installation.
